Drove all the way from Hampton Roads, VA to try these highly recommended philly cheese steak subs. The half sub was huge!! The portion of meat was overly generous in a very good way. There wasn't enough room for my toppings. The meat was well seasoned and tender. Not full of fat or gristle. It was well worth the trip! Now getting there was a bit rough. It is in the hood and you have to go through the hood to get there. Get your food and get gone if you are from out of town. Don't linger and don't go after dark. Parking is on the street so you had better know how to parallel park. The service was friendly and recognized that we were not from there. Other customers were friendly and welcoming. Ohhh and they only take cash. That part is a major inconvenience.

Walked in with decent expectations and still got blown away. Chicken steak was loaded, hot, and full of flavor. Everything tasted fresh... nothing soggy or overdone. Mayo added just the right flavor. Vibe was chill and staff were cracking jokes and knew what they were doing. Food came out fast even with a bit of a line Only downside is the beer prices, but you’re not coming here for the drinks any way.. Food carries the whole experience. Easily one of the top spots in the area.

We happened to go when the volume of patrons was low. Able to get in and out. Steak subs were very good. Need to eat them right away. If you don’t the bread will be way too soggy!

The vibe Thumping, the food "Pumping" i was happy to experience this highly recommended food spot while in north philly. As an outsider, one would most likely pass over this spot. But with the line of people coming out of the door and the great smells coming from inside, I had to check it out and was not disappointed.

Max’s Steaks is a true Philly treasure. As a Black woman who knows flavor, I can say their cheesesteak is iconic the bread soft but sturdy, steak juicy and perfectly cooked, cheese melty and rich. It’s more than a sandwich; it’s a taste of Philly’s soul and tradition. The vibe is welcoming and real. If you want an authentic cheesesteak, Max’s is where you need to be. Pure love in every bite.
